School Activities
Below is a sample of some of the school activities that the children of Scartaglen National School take part in.
Gaelic Football
Gaelic football is at the heart of our school community. Pupils of all ages take part in training and matches, developing not only their skills on the pitch but also teamwork, resilience, and a love of sport. We are proud to compete in local Cumann na mBunscol competitions and to continue the strong Scartaglen tradition of Gaelic games.

Basketball
Basketball is a very popular sport in our school, giving pupils the chance to stay active while learning coordination, movement, and teamwork. Training sessions are inclusive and enjoyable, and our teams regularly take part in inter-school blitzes and friendly games.

Music
Music plays a special role in Scartaglen National School, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of our parish and the Sliabh Luachra region. Pupils are encouraged to sing, play instruments and explore traditional Irish music. Our school choir and musicians perform at school events and community celebrations, helping to foster creativity, confidence and pride in local traditions.

Soccer
Soccer is another sport enjoyed by many of our pupils. We provide opportunities for boys and girls to develop their skills and take part in friendly matches and school competitions. Soccer promotes fitness, fair play, and enjoyment for children of all abilities.
Polytunnel/ Gardening
Our school polytunnel and garden are a source of great pride. Pupils learn about planting, growing, and caring for vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Gardening helps children understand the importance of sustainability, healthy eating, and caring for the environment, while also providing a hands-on learning experience.

Junior Entrepreneur
The Junior Entrepreneur Programme gives our senior classes the chance to become real entrepreneurs. Working together, pupils brainstorm ideas, develop products, and learn valuable skills in teamwork, problem-solving, finance, and communication. It is always a highlight of the school year and helps nurture creativity, confidence, and initiative.
